Over the past 30 years, Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) has remained one of the most significant and persistent threats to the global swine industry. Since its emergence in the early 1990s, the virus has spread extensively and is now considered endemic in most pig-producing regions worldwide. The virus remains difficult to control and continues to spread at a fast rate, not only due to its ability to cause severe disease, but also by its remarkable genetic variability and ability to rapidly evolve.
