Moredun Scientific is a contract research and testing organisation specialising in animal health and aquaculture product development. We have more than 30 years of experience in conducting efficacy and safety studies for the global animal health industry to GLP/VICH-GCP standards supporting product development, registration and commercialisation. We are the commercial arm of the Moredun Group and are supported by world leading scientists at the Moredun Research Institute who have a research focus on the prevention and control of infectious diseases of livestock.
Animal Health
Efficacy Studies:
- extensive portfolio of experimental and field infectious disease models for use in client studies
- new model and protocol development
- broad range of product types tested including vaccines, antimicrobials, anthelmintics, and anti-inflammatories.

Safety Studies: Safety and tolerance studies in compliance with relevant international guidelines for pharmaceuticals, biologicals and feed additives.
Facilities: Studies are conducted in our GLP accredited laboratories and extensive, flexible animal facilities. Our integrated complex incorporates purpose built farm animal accommodation, an operating theatre and a post mortem suite. A high containment facility provides optimal controlled environmental conditions for large and small animal species and facilitates research on specified pathogens up to Category 3.
Aquaculture
Efficacy Studies: We have expertise with a broad range of disease models including Salmon Lice (Lepeophtheirus salmonis), bacterial and viral pathogens.
Safety Studies: GLP safety and tolerance studies with pharmaceuticals, biologicals and feed additives.
Fish Performance Studies: new and improved formulated feeds, feed ingredients, feed additives and fish handling equipment.
Facilities: biosecure testing facilities (Seawater and Freshwater) and GLP accredited laboratory facilities.
Biosafety testing
We test raw materials, cell lines, virus seeds, bulk harvests and final biopharmaceutical products to meet regulatory requirements. Tests include GLP in vivo adventitious assays, GMP sterility and GMP mycoplasma assays.
Biological Materials
We offer custom preparation of a range of biological materials including antisera, viruses, bacteria and other materials for research or commercial use.
